Golden Retriever house training requires consistency and patience on your part. It is a learned skill for dogs similar to the way you must teach a child to use the toilet.

When you have decided where your puppy is to go, begin the training. Show him the location of the pad or where you want him to go outside.

Take him to the spot regularly and make sure he does his business before letting him move from the location.

When training Golden Retrievers they should be taken to potty frequently depending on his age. They can typically go one hour for each month of their age between bathroom breaks.

Therefore, a one month old retriever should be allowed to use the bathroom each hour.

All dogs, regardless of age, should be allowed to use the restroom after each meal, upon waking up in the morning, and at night before going to sleep.

This will help keep them from ruining the floors in your home, and will set their bladders on a good routine.

As their organs get stronger, they will be able to only go during these times, making house training easier for you later on.

When you are not home, your golden retriever should be created. Some owners think this is a cruel punishment for a dog that has done nothing wrong.

However, most pets love their crate as it gives them their own personal space. It will also prevent accidents on your carpet while you are not home.

Dogs will learn to use their bladder muscles to hold their urine while in the crate, as most do not wish to use the bathroom and then have to lay in it.

House training a golden retriever requires patience and consistency. A routine should be established that would allow the dog's body to know when it is appropriate to relieve itself.
